A child's first dental visit shapes their relationship with dental care for the rest of their life. At Piwan Dental, the children's chair is staffed by clinicians who take the extra time — explaining, showing, going at the child's pace.
Best practice is by their first birthday, or within 6 months of their first tooth appearing. The first visit is short, more of a meet-and-greet — we count teeth, show them the chair, give the parent a brushing demonstration. It's about making the clinic feel safe, not about treatment.
Almost all are at first. We never force a procedure. We use child-friendly language ('Mr. Sleepy' instead of anesthetic, 'a little wind' instead of the drill), let the child touch the instruments, and break treatments into very short sessions if needed. Parents are welcome in the room.
They matter. Untreated cavities in baby teeth can cause pain, infection, and impact the permanent teeth growing underneath. We treat them with the same techniques as adult fillings, scaled to the child.
A thin protective coating painted onto the deep grooves of back teeth. It blocks bacteria and food from getting trapped, dramatically reducing cavity risk in the years when children are still mastering brushing technique. Painless to apply, lasts 5–10 years.
We do orthodontic screenings from age 7. Many children don't need any intervention; some benefit from early-stage 'interceptive' treatment that prevents larger problems later. We refer to orthodontic specialists for full treatment.
